Since protests started nearly a year and a half ago, more than 70 people have been arrested in Ni’lin. Those targeted in Ni’lin tend to be young men in their twenties, as well as children and juveniles. Currently, five remain in Ofer prison without charges.

Name: Moath Fihmi Srour
Age: 24
Education: B.S. in Information Technology
Date of arrest: March 15, 2009
Time in prison: 221 days

At two in the morning, Occupation jeeps stopped in front of Moath’s home, which is located in the old section of the village. They invaded his home and took him from his brothers and sisters. They prevented him from dressing, taking him instead in what he was wearing. Soldiers also took his computer and external hard drive. In the beginning, he was interrogated at al Jalama prison for more than 17 days. His trial has been postponed more than 6 times, and he remains in Ofer prison.

Name: Bahaa al Khawaja
Age: 17
Education: High School
Date of arrest: July 9, 2009
Time in prison: 105 days

During the weekly demonstration against the Wall, Israeli special forces posing as demonstrators attacked Bahaa and another youth named Alaa. They threw them to the ground, kicking and beating them while firing into the air with revolvers. Regular soldiers then came through the gate in the Wall and took the two. For the past three months, Bahaa’s trial has been postponed three times. He is currently held in Ofer prison.

Name: Alaa al Khawaja
Age: 18
Education: High School
Date of arrest: July 9, 2009
Time in prison: 105 days

During the weekly demonstration against the Wall, Israeli special forces posing as demonstrators attacked Alaa and Bahaa. They threw them to the ground, kicking and beating them while firing into the air with revolvers. Regular soldiers then came through the gate in the Wall and took the two. Also at Ofer, Alaa’s trial has been postponed three times.

Name: Ahmad Ameera
Age: 23
Education: High School
Date of arrest: August, 2009
Time in prison: Approximately 55 days

For the past year, Ahmad has slept away from home and managed to evade Occupation forces. Soldiers have raided his home more than a dozen times in failed attempts to arrest him and his brother. The last time they did so, one of the commanders promised his mother that if her sons did not turn themselves in they would be killed at the demonstration. Ahmad’s mother has already lost her husband and did not want to lose her sons as well. Currently Ahmad is in Ofer, and his trial has been postponed once.

In addition to Ahmad, his brother Sa’ad was also previously arrested. Another brother, Mohammed (see below) is also imprisoned.

Name: Mohammed Ameera
Age: 21
Education: High School
Date of arrest: September 27, 2009
Time in prison: 28 days

Like his brother Ahamd, Mohammad used to sleep outside of his home to avoid arrest. In the end, following the threats of the commander to his mother and constant stress brought upon his younger brothers in sisters by the night raids on his home, Mohammed turned himself in. He is now in Ofer prison.
