Aboud Challenges the Occupation Forces that Imprison them Behind the Wall!

200 villagers from Aboud have resisted for hours today the Occupation forces’ brutality and stopped the works for the Apartheid Wall that will imprison the village. Land destruction in Aboud is now concurrently ongoing in four different areas. Almost surrounding the village, Occupation bulldozers have sped up work and intensified devastation in the areas of Khallayel, Wadi Barbara, al Qa`dat and Jannadis.

The popular committee had called the people from Aboud to gather in the village. From there, the crowd marched to Wadi Barbara, the village lands where Beit Areh settlement has been built. The Apartheid Wall will confiscate further land for the expansion of the Jewish-only settlement. This demonstration of people claiming their land and their right to resistance and existence blocked settlement work. In response, the Occupation fired tear gas at the crowd, brutally beat the protestors, and arrested one of the village youth. Two villagers were injured.
The people made it clear that not only they would continue to defend their land but they would not leave until the youth had been released. After two hours, the determination of the people freed the youth from the hands of the Occupation. However, the protest continued until darkness set in to defend the village lands and stop the works. The village youth pelted the military with stones from the hilltops to show that only when their land was freed from Israeli occupation and apartheid would they end their struggle.
Since over a month now, Aboud has been rising in popular resistance against the Wall and the ghettoization of the village. Weekly demonstrations have repeatedly stopped the works and many injuries have been inflicted upon the villagers by the Occupation. If the Wall is not stopped, almost 6,000 dunams of village land will be isolated from Aboud while the wall will encircle the village from three sides – sometimes only hundreds of meters away from the houses.
