People march in al-Ma'sara
Latest News, Palestinian Grassroots Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign, August 17th, 2009
Al-Ma'sara's people held their weekly demonstration against the Apartheid Wall and building of settlements, joined by a group of internationals and Israelis.
The demonstration began in the early afternoon, leaving from the middle of the village after Friday prayers. Hundreds of people marched through the village toward the Wall chanting slogans for national unity and against the occupation.
When the arrived at the edge of the village they found, as usual, soldiers massed behind razor wire that had been thrown across the road.
People tried to pass, but soldiers shoved them back. Activists gave speeches on the spot; one commemorated the death of famous Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, while another spoke about the Palestinian situation.
People again tried to remove the barrier and access their fields and struggled with the soldiers who blocked their path.
