Al Ma’sara to PNA: First the Wall must fall
Latest News, Palestinian Grassroots Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign, January 29th, 2010
This Friday, a large crowd gathered at the village’s boys’ school and marched to a section of the Apartheid Wall that is built on al Ma’sara’s land. Stopped by a lines of soldiers before even reaching the Wall, the protest was addressed by several speeches.
A representative of the Popular Committee against the Wall and the Settlements in al Ma’sara addressed the crowd. He referred to the latest attempts by the US administration to broker a new round of fruitless negotiations to cover up ongoing Israeli crimes. He announced that the protesters were sending a message to the Palestinian Authority that no negotiations should be held with the Occupation as long as settlements stand on stolen Palestinian land and the Wall continues to ghettoize the Palestinian people. The crowd was also addressed by a member of the Fatah Central Committee.
The speeches included an intervention by Mohammad Brijiyeh, the Coordinator of the Popular Committee, reminding demonstrators that no threats or repression will stop these demonstrations. Though he and other organizers are since the beginning of this year continuously subjected to threats and attempts of intimidation by the occupation forces, he vowed that these mobilizations will only stop when the Wall falls.
After the speeches, the youth moved forward to pull away the fencing the Occupation Forces had laid to prevent people from reaching the site of the Wall and their lands. The military reacted with brutal, disproportionate force and two young men, 24 and 27 years old, were so badly beaten they had to gt medical treatment.
