November 24th, 2009 -- This photo story looks at the events that led up to the events on November 10th, exactly 20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, when Palestinians destroyed part of the Wall near Qalandiya. This was not the first time the Wall has recently been brought down, and the people of Ni'lin have succeeded in toppling concrete slabs several months prior. Furthermore, the fencing and sensors are consistently destroyed in Ni'lin, Jayyus, and dozens of other communities, often away from the eyes of the media. [MORE]
October 19th, 2009 -- Israeli arrests of Palestinian human rights activists aim at stopping grassroots activism and the global call for Israeli accountability in front of international courts and through boycott, divestment and sanction (BDS) campaigns. On Friday and Saturday (16 – 17 October), people across the globe rallied under the call, “If you want to arrest the BDS movement, you have to catch us all!” Actions were organized in Canada, the USA, South Africa, Norway, Italy, France, the UK, Japan, Spain, Greece and Palestine. September 6th, 2009 -- In Ni’lin, people marched to their land in protest of the Wall, clashing with Occupation forces who fired tear gas and chemical spray, in addition to live and rubber bullets. May 21st, 2009 -- On May 1, the Wall was moved in Jayyus. Villagers turned out to celebrate, finally able to walk on land that has been isolated for years. But with the Wall still standing, soldiers will maintain control over the majority of village land while movement, social ties and economic activity will continue to deteriorate. The struggle will continue until the Wall is destroyed and every stolen dunum returned. [MORE]
May 16th, 2009 -- On May 15, Palestinians officially commemorated 61 years of the Nakba. From May 14 – 16, activities and demonstrations were organized across historic Palestine, in Gaza, the ’48 and the West Bank. [MORE]
April 20th, 2009 -- This Friday, Basem Ibrahim Abu Rahma was martyred in Bil’in, where he was shot during a protest. Soldiers also attacked several other anti-Wall demonstrations in the West Bank, wounding scores of people. In these past months, the deaths of Abu Rahma, along with Arafat Khawaja, Mohammed Khawaja, Ahmed Mousa and Youssef Amirah are not isolated examples of “unauthorized fire” or protocol breach, but rather reflect a violent, institutionalized military policy. April 2nd, 2009 -- On March 30, people across the world organized film screenings, sit-ins, demonstrations and new boycott campaigns on the first global BDS action day. Some highlights included South America, which is quickly taking up the BDS call, and Italy, which has mobilized on an unprecedented level.
