Remembering 61 years of Nakba Credit: . Date: May 16th, 2009.
On May 15, Palestinians officially commemorated 61 years of the Nakba. From May 14 – 16, activities and demonstrations were organized across historic Palestine, in Gaza, the ’48 and the West Bank.
Above: In Ramallah, thousands participated in the central march, which began at the grave of the late Yassir Arafat and headed into the central square. Participants carried signs with the names of villages lost in 1948 and called for return.
Above: A woman carries a key to a house lost in 1948 during a Nakba demonstration. Similar activities occurred in all major cities across the West Bank on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, Occupation police arrested three students participating in a Nakba commemoration activity at the al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem.

Above: Villagers hold a protest against the Wall in Anin, north Jenin. For Nakba day, residents marched on the iron gate of the Wall, where they were met by soldiers.
Above: An art exhibition entitled “Open the Doors” was organized on the Wall that cuts through Baqa’ al-Gharbiya and Baqa’ ash-Sharqiya. Despite Occupation patrols, a number of people turned out to view the exhibition.
Above: Protestors confront soldiers in al-Ma’sara. Villages with weekly anti-Wall protests mobilized this Friday to commemorate the Nakba. 11 people were injured in Ni’lin, Bil’in and al-Ma’sara, among a 12-year-old girl from Ni’lin who was shot in the arm with a live round as she was standing near her family home.
