As the EU-Israeli research funding programme HORIZON 2020 continues to allocate citizens tax money to big business, civil society keeps pressuring the EU to comply with its own ethical policies and its obligations under international law. Military companies - including Israeli military and security companies - are heavily funded by the EU. This is a direct channel to support the development of new technologies for Israel’s systematic oppression of the Palestinian People. Despite the EU ethics norms require avoidance of dual use, misuse or mission/function creep of the research results, the EU still fails to answer concerns that the new technologies may be used for war crimes.
I have never been in a courtroom or a jail before now. I cannot draw a direct comparison to anything I know from the UK. But I am certain that the court hearing of Stop the Wall youth coordinator Hassan Karajah on 14 February at Jalameh military court near Haifa was not like anything I could have come across in the UK.
The occupation courts have forbidden Hassan Karajah's lawyer from seeing him until Sunday, February 10 2013. In the meanwhile international pressure is growing. European governments are alerted about the case and international civil society is mobilizing.
Amnesty International has released a statement on Hassan Karajah asking their members and concerned citizens to address Israeli authorities regarding the case. Fore more click here.

Today, January 29 2013 the military court of the occupation forces had scheduled their second hearing since the arrest of the human rights defender and Stop the Wall youth coordinator Hassan Karajah.
Hassan once again was denied to see either his lawyer or his family and only after Hassan left the court room his lawyer was allowed to enter and to present his objection to the previous extension of Hassan´s detention. No decision was communicated today.
The Palestinian Authority would be “traitors” if they agreed to a condition the UK is seeking to impose in exchange for agreeing to support Palestine upgrading its membership in the UN. So said Raji Sourani, Director of the Palestine Center for Human Rights (PCHR) at a meeting with lawyers from the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) in Gaza City today.
As a result of the Israeli aggression on Gaza protest demonstrations and solidarity marches was arranged all over the West Bank – From Jenin in the north to Hebron in the south. Once again the occupation forces of Israel suppressed the popular resistance of the Palestinians.
“Despite killings, arrests and repression, we will continue”
In the series of repression practiced by the occupation forces on the popular weekly demonstrations against the apartheid wall and settlements, occupation forces arrested and wounded dozens during the weekly demonstrations in the West Bank.
In Bilin, the occupation forces faced the protesters with sound and tear gas bombs and shot metal bullets covered with rubber, which caused dozens of suffocation cases and injured 20-year-old photojournalist Iyas Abo Rahme.
Abdullah Abu Rahma, coordinator for the popular committee in Bil’in, recently spoke to us about Basem Abu Rahma. Basem had participated in actions against the Wall since they began in the village in 2005 until 17 April, 2009, when he was martyred at age 31 during his last protest in Bil’in.
