Call for the Week against the Apartheid Wall 2015: November 9-16

Stop the Bantustans!

2015 has been so far one of the worst moments in the waves of ethnic cleansing by Israel against the Palestinian people. Israel is rapidly implementing its plan to forcibly transfer the Palestinian population out of the over 500 communities located in area C: 7,000 Palestinians living in 46 Bedouin communities in the Jordan Valley and east of Jerusalem are currently resisting the demolition of their communities, an additional 20 communities are under threat in the South Hebron hills. This adds to the over 15,000 Palestinians expelled from their homes in the West Bank during the last two decades and includes some of the 4,500 pending demolition orders against Palestinian buildings. We are fast approaching a crucial point of no return.

Stop the Wall is organizing three demonstrations to add to the weekly Friday activities against the Wall in the different villages:

The demonstration takes place to commemorate the massacre of the people of al Sammou, south of Hebron. Exactly 45 years ago, on November 13 1966 Israeli forces raided this village, destroyed 125 houses, the village clinic and school as well as 15 houses in a neighboring village. 18 people were killed and 54 wounded.

As Palestinian grassroots Stop the Wall Campaign we reiterate our solidarity with the Mexican people and all those affected by the US Wall and the Trump administration’s anti-migration policies. The years of joint struggles together with Mexican movements have shown us the atrocious level of necropolitics, that include endless violations of human rights and the rights of the peoples of Mexico. Israel contributes with its weapons, technology and trainings to facilitate this veritable war on the people and reaps huge profits from this dirty business. This urgently underlines the need for the people to unite in the fight against militarization and for peace, justice and freedom.

Stop the Wall invites activists, academics and all those affected by walls: physical and ideological walls that divide us, to contribute to a collection of essays, short papers and other written or visual contributions discussing and building the quest for a World Without Walls. Please find the details and information on how to contribute here.

Please join us on November 9! Here are 3 InterActions to build momentum for a #WorldwithoutWalls on the Global Day of InterAction.

Here are some easy steps to join this amazing mobilization.

Exactly 25 years ago, the Berlin Wall came down. John F. Kennedy’s famous speech ‘I am a Berliner’ made that wall the very symbol the West had chosen to embody the ‘other’ against which it pitted itself for decades, justifying countless wars, support for dictatorships, torture across the world and internal repression. November 9, 1989 marked the end of the Cold War era and the beginning of the era of the ‘clash of civilizations’. Returning to the old orientalist scheme the Arab and Muslim populations became the new enemy.

Palestinian activists affiliated with local popular resistance committees in the villages northwest of Jerusalem on Saturday broke open a hole in the separation wall to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

"No matter how high walls are built, they will fall. Just as the Berlin Wall fell, the wall in Palestine will fall, along with the occupation," the popular committees said in a statement.

Stop the Wall Campaign strongly condemns the massive military onslaught by Israeli Occupation Forces.

Over the past two weeks, more than 500 Palestinians have been arrested; six have been shot dead by Israeli forces; air strikes have bombarded Gaza; our homes, cities and refugee camps have been invaded every night; and our freedom of movement has been taken hostage by a lockdown of the entire West Bank imposed through checkpoints and the deployment of surveillance drones overhead.

(Quito, Ecuador) Many in Ecuador have also been moved to show solidarity with the Palestinians and their struggle, especially during this occasion of the international week against the wall.

From the iconic sites of the Israeli wall and the US/Mexico border, we are witnessing a world-wide proliferation of walls and reinforcement of borders. These not only delimitate the nation state but proliferate in its interior, reproducing social divisions along lines of race, class and gender, and reflecting and reinforcing existing power relations.
