ICJ

Occupation forces suppressed the demonstration organized today by Stop The Wall Campaign and “Welcome to Palestine” initiative at al-Quba checkpoint at the northern entrance of Bethlehem city by firing tear gas and rubber bullets. Mazen al-Azah, coordinator of Stop the Wall campaign for Bethlehem district, said that the demo came as part of the local grassroots movement's organized week of events against Apartheid, discrimination, and to end Occupation.

Swiss activists from Collectif Urgence Palestine stepped up their campaign against Connex, undertaking direct action against the company which supports the racist and Apartheid policies of the Occupation. Interrupting the operation of a Connex operated shuttle, protestors showed the way in boycotting Connex and challenging it’s profiteering from Israeli Apartheid.

"To apply the ICJ Decision and Halt the Ethnic Cleansing in Jerusalem and Palestine!"

As Palestinians are ethnically cleansed from their capital of Jerusalem, expelled from their lands in the West Bank, imprisoned in Gaza and under subjugation in the 1948 areas, the Occupation ensures that the most devastating symbols of racism and colonialism have continued into the 21st century. Steps to sustain and legitimize this apartheid system in Palestine - imposed by the Occupation Forces with the complicity of the international community - gain in momentum every day.

Following the reports of Palestinian resistance during February and March, one cannot help but notice two striking features:

Over the last few weeks, Palestinian resistance has increased against the Apartheid Wall dismissing claims made by the Occupation Forces over modification of the Wall’s path. Palestinian resistance made it clear they didn’t believe the Zionist lies and do not accept the negation towards the issue of the Wall by negotiators at Sharm al-Shekh. Below is a summary of Palestinian resistance since the 18th of February:

Santa Monica, CA, July 25, 2004 - A 48 hour solidarity fast for Palestinian liberation held near the mouth of the Santa Monica Pier ended today at 5 PM with fasters and their supporters tired and pleased with their outreach and education efforts.

In a press release on July 16, the newly formed "Mexicans for Peace in the Holy Land" (MPHL), based in East Los Angeles, strongly condemned five local congressional representatives becuase of their vote in support of the grotesque wall being constructed by Zionist Israel to imprison and segregate the Palestinian people on their own land.

When the dynamics of power politics divert the public sphere, in the case of the state, and international public opinion, in the case of nations, from the plight of the victim then it is time that the dry language of the court comes to the rescue. The reason is that this language is not subject to the constraints of the balance of power, or to the demands of diplomatic niceties, but serves to interpret law and pronounce judgement.

ADVISORY OPINION

The Court finds that the construction by Israel of a wall in the Occupied Palestinian
Territory and its associated régime are contrary to international law; it states
the legal consequences arising from that illegality.

On July 9th, as the ICJ read its advisory opinion declaring the illegality of the Wall and stated that Israel must immediately stop construction of the Wall, dismantle sections that have been built and offer reparations to those who have suffered as a result of its construction, demonstrators gathered in solidarity with Palestine and in resistance to the Apartheid Wall.

The latest political cartoon from Khalil Abu Arafeh comes in response to the ICJ ruling that the Apartheid Wall is illegal. Time will tell if international pressure, sanctions, boycott and support of Palestinian resistance to the Wall will ultimately make the impact of the ICJ ruling strong enough to bring the Wall down.
