When the dynamics of power politics divert the public sphere, in the case of the state, and international public opinion, in the case of nations, from the plight of the victim then it is time that the dry language of the court comes to the rescue. The reason is that this language is not subject to the constraints of the balance of power, or to the demands of diplomatic niceties, but serves to interpret law and pronounce judgement.

In 1971, after years of South Afican Occupation, and countless UN resolutions the ICJ heard the case for the "Legal Consequences of the Continued Presence of South Africa in Namibia." After deliberations the ICJ found the continued Occupation of Namibia to be illegal under International law. Shortly thereafter the international community imposed sanctions on the Apartheid State.

The twin spectres of "politicizing" the UN and damaging the "fragility" of non-existent peace talks between General Sharon and the decrepit Palestinian Authority are again being invoked, this time to scuttle the upcoming deliberations in the International Court of Justice at the Hague on the legality of Israel's separation barrier in the occupied West Bank.

On November 9th residents from Zububa, a village in the Jenin district surrounded by the Wall on three side, held a demonstration where sections of wires were torn down from the Wall. The following images were taken after the Occupation Military arrived and fired tear gas and bullets at the demonstrators.

While in Palestine thousands took part in their national day against the Apartheid Wall on November 9th, solidarity from multiple regions across the globe was expressed, magnifying the call that the Wall in Palestine must stop and be torn down. These worldwide actions emerged from growing support with the Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign since its inception just one year ago, and in particular to the Campaign call in June 2003 which designated Nov 9th as International Day Against the Wall.
