COP26 Event: Apartheid Israel and climate change are intertwined

While governments meet at the UN Climate Change Conference, COP26 in Glasgow, we, the people come together to denounce any solutions that are not informed by our struggles for self-determination, including Palestinians’ anti-colonial struggle.

On Nov. 9th we will denounce solutions to climate change that continue to perpetuate Israel’s three-tiered system of oppression: settler colonialism, apartheid and military occupation through a workshop titled ‘How Apartheid Israel and Climate Change are Intertwined.’

Abeer Butmeh (PENGON-FOE Palestine), Manal Shqair (Stop the Wall Campaign), Ya’araa Peretz (One Climate) and Fiona Ben Chekroun (BDS Movement) will share their insights about the intertwinement between Israel’s long-standing oppression of the Palestinian people, EU/Western extractivism and climate change.

The speakers will also be defining steps to stop the Jewish National Fund and joint gas projects between Israel and the EU in the Mediterranean; as well as discuss the joint struggle and mutual solidarity to achieve self-determination and climate justice for Palestinians from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea.
