News

In late August 2003, the Israeli occupation forces informed the Red Crescent that there would be “real changes” taking place in Jubara, a small hamlet of 300 residents south of Tulkarem. Such declared changes, then not specified yet predictable, had already begun with the building of the Apartheid Wall and are now escalating as Israel’s expansionist policies are advancing to expel residents from Jubara.

Throughout this week, villagers whose lands have been isolated by the Wall in the northern West Bank found an Israeli military order declaring that the lands isolated behind the Wall formed a “demarcation border” and prohibiting passage to these areas almost entirely. The orders, which constitute a grave and blatant next step in Israel’s illegal land grab, come at the same time that the United Nations postponed voting on a Security Council resolution regarding Israel’s Apartheid Wall.

The people in the village of Falamya are appealing for international organizations to intervene immediately so farmers can access their isolated land behind the Apartheid Wall, where nearly 6,000 citrus and fruit trees are perishing. The Wall has brought massive devastation to the some 600 residents in Falamya, which is northeast of Qalqiliya.

On Tuesday October 6th, the Municipality of Jayyus, a village in the Qalqiliya district which is separated from 72% of its land by the Wall, sent out an appeal for support for residents’ to reach their land. There are two “access gates” in Jayyus which are claimed by the Israeli military to be for farmers to reach land on the “other side” of the Wall; however, the gates are a means by which Israel seeks to legitimize the Wall and confiscation of Palestinian land and intensify the humiliation which Palestinians suffer under all aspects of the Occupation.

To mark the third year of the Intifada and amplify the call from Palestine to “STOP THE WALL!” the Norwegian People’s Aid & Association of Norwegian NGO’s for Palestine organized a series of lectures, film screenings, and demonstrations from the 26th to the 30th of September in major cities across Norway.

In what those who have been closely following Israel’s plans around the construction of the Wall see as pre-determined, Wednesday’s high profile announcement to build the Wall east of Ariel and Kedumim is outdated, as the current mapping of the Wall is virtually the same as plans that have been made public since the beginning of 2003.

On September 8, 2003 the United Nations published an official document, Question of the Violation of Human Rights in the Occupied Arab Territories, including Palestine, which includes a special chapter analyzing the impact of the Wall on Palestinians as well as the illegality of the Wall itself. This report, written by the Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights, John Dugard, states clearly how the Wall is a means for the illegal annexation of Palestinian land with severe implications for displacing residents.

ACTION PLAN ADOPTED TODAY ALSO CALLS FOR EDUCATING PUBLIC, TABLING OF NEW RESOLUTIONS IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY, SECURITY COUNCIL

Civil society organizations committed themselves to pressure their governments to condemn the construction of the "wall" by Israel as part of its pattern of illegal settlement activity, according to the Plan of Action adopted this afternoon at the conclusion of the United Nations International Conference of Civil Society in Support of the Palestinian People.

Nazlat 'Isa, Tulkarem -- Israeli bulldozers, accompanied by the military, demolished today three commercial stores in Nazlat 'Isa, located near the Green Line between Baqa Al Sharqia and Baqa Al Gharbia. Ten days ago, the Israeli Occupation Forces demolished 135 stores in the village as well as five houses. The large scale demolition of the commercial area was the completion of the destruction which began last January with the destruction of 85 stores.

OVER 100 SHOPS AND 5 HOMES DEMOLISHED IN NAZLAT 'ISA FOR THE BUILDING OF THE WALL

Qalqiliya -- Israeli bulldozers, accompanied with three military jeeps along with armed guards of the Israeli construction companies, began bulldozing 50 dunums of lands along the eastern side of the Qalqiliya Wall for its so-called "buffer zone". Among the destruction were vegetables crops and water pipes. The buffer zone of this portion of the Wall will be 50 meters wide and run the length of 2 kilometers.
