#Free Salah update: Next hearing December 1

Yesterday the appeal hearing adjourned from Sunday has upheld the 9 days extension of the interogation period for Salah Khawaja. A next court hearing is scheduled for Thursday, December 1 2016 at Ofar detention center, close to Ramallah.

On 26 October, Israeli forces entered into the neighbourhood where Salah Khawaja lives and fired tear gas around his home, causing physical harm to neighbouring families, including children. Israeli forces then proceeded to raid the home of Salah Khawaja and detained him. The human rights defender was not informed of the reason for the raid or his detention.

Front Line Defenders states its concern in front of "the apparent ill-treatment and arbitrary detention of Salah Khawaja, as it believes it to be in retaliation to his legitimate and peaceful human rights activities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Front Line Defenders urges Israeli authorities to ensure that the treatment of Salah Khawaja, while in detention, adheres to the conditions set out in the ‘Body of Principles for the Protection of All Persons under Any Form of Detention or Imprisonment', adopted by UN General Assembly resolution 43/173 of 9 December 1988."
