World without Walls 2020 webinars

The initiative for a World without Walls is grounded in the annual Global Day of InterAction, held each year on November 9. November 9 marks the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall – an event celebrated until today by many of today’s biggest wall builders.

This year, the Global Day of InterAction has turned into a Month of InterAction for a World without Walls. At its core stands a series of five webinars coordinated by Stop the Wall with some of the many partners that have joined the initiative over the years and complemented by dozens of decentralized initiatives, from Malaysia to California.

The World without Walls 2020 webinars “Resistance Rising: The Walls will Fall” have allowed us to bring together movements, particularly from the global south, in inspiring conversations and experience sharing about the walls of injustice they are struggling about. In a unique series of events we have been able to discuss the role of Palestine solidarity as part of the global struggle against the rising far-right regimes as well as Israel’s role in the construction and maintenance of digital walls, the Arab walls, the walls of the European Union’s anti-migration policies and denial of access to water as yet another wall of injustice.

RESISTANCE RISING – ONWARD TOWARDS A WORLD WITHOUT WALLS

World without Walls 2020 webinar #1: Watch the round table with activists that lead struggles that bring real change: Sonia Guajajara (APIB/Brazil), Bertha Zuñiga Copinh/Honduras), Vijoo Krishnan (AIKS/India) and Jamal Juma’ (StoptheWall/Palestine). They share their experiences and reflections on the struggle against rising racism, supremacy, dispossession, destruction of democracy and colonial policies, placing Palestine as an integral part of this global effort to turn the tide. Faced with some of the world’s most brutal regimes and governments, their struggles give us hope and inspiration.

ISRAEL EU NEXUS: MILITARIZATION, MIGRATION AND APARTHEID

World without Walls 2020 webinar #2: Watch this unique conversation on the role of Israel in the militarization and anti-migration policies of the EU. Our amazing set of speakers present hard facts and powerful testimonies.

DIGITAL WALLS: ISRAEL’S ROLE IN DIGITAL COLONIALISM AND CONTROL

World without Walls 2020 webinar #3: Watch digital rights activists from Palestine, India, Ecuador and the US discuss how digital walls share with physical walls the same logic of repression, deny us access and let others gain control over our lives. They share insights into how corporate complicity in these digital walls serves certain ideologies and violates our rights. They further look into the role Israeli corporations, methods and technologies, which are routinely tested on the Palestinian people, have in the development of these digital walls.

ARAB WALLS: REPRESSION AND DIVISION

World without Walls 2020 webinar #4: Dr. Samia Botmeh (Palestine), Dr. Saad Akash (Kuweit), Mehfud Bechri (Western Sahara) in conversation about walls in the Arab world, normalization with #IsraeliApartheid and Arab unity to achieve justice.

WATER: A COMMON GOOD OR A PRIVILEGE FOR THE FEW?

World without Walls 2020 webinar #5: Watch Fatou Diouf (PSI, Senegal), Meera Sanghamitra (NAPM, India), Muhmmed Lamin Saidykhan (AfricansRising, The Gambia), Tilda Rabi (Federation of Argentino-Palestinian Entities, Argentina) and Dr. Abdelrahman Tamimi (Palestinian Hydrology Group, Palestine) are discussing the denial of access to water as yet another wall of injustice!
