The Palestinian Grassroots Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign Prepares for World Social Forum

Palestinian non-governmental organizations, networks and grassroots organizations and movements are preparing for one of the largest anti-globalization, anti-imperialism gatherings expected in the coming year, the World Social Forum (WSF). Only three weeks away, the World Social Forum in Mumbai India, to be held from the 16-21 of January, is expecting in attendance some 75,000 activists from civil society worldwide.

***image2***As is the case in Palestine, the call to tear down the Apartheid Wall is expected to be a central issue around Palestine solidarity during–and after–the World Social Forum. The annual event, which is being held for the first time in India and was held for its first three years in Brazil, will witness once again an outcry for an end to the Occupation of Palestine as part of the essential demand of the WSF to end all oppression and colonization.

The Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign, as the national grassroots movement against the Wall, represents affected communities throughout the Wall’s path; when completed, the Wall will run within the entire West Bank, signifying the de facto annexation of 50% of the occupied territory.

In order to disseminate information on the Wall, coordinate with Forum attendees, and encourage effective mobilization, the Campaign will have a booth/stall for the duration of the Forum, and will be disseminating material on the Wall and the Campaign, including fact sheets, stickers, posters, and CD presentations.

In addition, an event organized by the Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign will take place on January 19th. The event, which will be held in a venue with a 1000-person capacity, will focus on the Wall and its implications on Palestine.

The slogans of the Campaign which will be heard throughout the WSF will be:
Tear Down the Wall! Stop the Apartheid! Stop the Occupation!
