Six days of demonstrations and arrests (almost 2000 activists) in New York came to its conclusion on September 2 with a demonstration called by the A.N.S.W.E.R. coalition that drew 10-15,000 people opposing US colonialism, occupation and its support for Israeli Apartheid.
The anti-war/anti-occupation actions were called for in occasion of the Republican Convention and staged as a conscious act of solidarity with the Palestinian political prisoners and in support of the rights of the Iraqi and Palestinian people as well as the people of Haiti. It denounced US support for Israeli politics and the Apartheid Wall.
These actions follow the protests at the Democratic Convention as A.N.S.W.E.R. denounced that âKerry shares Bush’s objectives of U.S. domination over the oil-rich Middle East. If elected, Kerry will continue this criminal occupation. […] Kerry has announced that he supports the Israeli Apartheid Wall and will extend Bush’s policy of wholehearted embrace of the Israeli government as it carries out the assassinations of Palestinian leaders and the mass arrests and torture of Palestinian political prisoners.â
Believing that the task is not âto convince the Democrats in Congress to stand against Bush’s push toward warâ but to build âa mass movement of the people, in the streets and independent of both partiesâ, the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition is already preparing for the Counter Inaugural demonstration on January 20, 2005 opposing US colonialism in the Middle East, no matter who will be elected.
