***image2*** Saturday 25th, in six different cities in Germany, rallies and demonstrations were held on the occasion of the 4th anniversary of the al-Aqsa Intifada, calling for an end to the Apartheid Wall and the Occupation in Palestine and Iraq. The National Day of Action was taken up following the call by the Mumbai Resistance as well as from the Palestinian Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign. Months of preparation have helped to create more awareness among people in Germany about the occupations, war and racism that the people of Palestine and Iraq and the entire region are suffering from, and resisting.
In Hamburg, Hanover and Berlin between 50 and 100 people gathered, and in Stuttgart 400 demonstrated in the streets. The biggest event was held in Cologne with some 1000 demonstrators.
In Cologne, demands were for concrete action by the German government and the EU. The call was to stop immediately all arms trade with Israel and to impose sanctions against Israeli Apartheid policies. The demonstrators further demanded the closure of the US military bases and German airspace for the Occupation aircrafts.
The demonstration opened with words and greeting sent by the Palestinian Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign to the people mobilizing in Germany, and which was warmly received with much applause. (The greetings were published as well by the daily newspaper Jung Welt in full text and can be accessed under: https://www.jungewelt.de/2004/09-24/007.php).
