Hundreds of people from Niâlin and the surrounding villages, supported by some internationals, marched again to their threatened land. The people managed to halt construction work, causing the Occupation force stationed in the area to respond violently.
***image2***The demonstration began at 11:00 in the village centre. Given the recent victories against the bulldozers, soldiers have been making serious efforts to keep demonstrators out of the vicinity of the construction zone. As the march approached, soldiers fired sound and gas bombs. This failed to halt the demonstrators, and as the people came closer, soldiers physically attacked the leaders.
When bulldozer operators realized that the army would fail to stop the villagers, they halted work and fled the area. This infuriated the soldiers, who proceeded to continue their attacks against the march, arresting a number of activists. Occupation forces also declared the threatened land a closed military zone in an attempt to deter people from entering.
