In response to a gag order placed on them by the Israeli authorities regarding an act of political persecution by Israel, Palestinian organizations inside the Green Line call on all to join a mass rally in Haifa at Beit Karmel at 7 pm tonight.
Political activists and representatives of Palestinian advocacy groups are out to break the orders that shut down their voices. They have organized the protest against the arrest of leaders of the Palestinian people and the political persecution the Israeli state subjects them to.
Mossawa director Jafar Farah explains: “We will act against compulsory laws that enable the prevention of meetings with lawyers. We will organize public events with the goal of placing on the agenda the political persecution of activists in Arab organizations.”
Former MK Issam Makhoul, who is planning to participate in tonight’s rally, said the public was being deprived of its right to know what had sparked the protest.
“These are drastic steps that infringe on basic rights – the public’s right to know,” he said. In fact, various media outlets around the world have already reported about the issue.
The Higher Arab Monitoring Committee is due to hold an emergency session over the weekend to discuss the matter.
