Pompeo’s claim that it is entirely up to Israel whether or not to build and maintain illegal settlements or to annex Palestinian and Syrian lands as they please belies all evidence and stands in blatant violation of international law. It reminds us of his claim that Trump won the 2020 elections. It maybe his wishful thinking but there is nothing further from the truth!
Equally, Pompeo’s false accusations of ‘anti-semitism’ against the Palestinian-lead non-violent movement for Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS), a human rights effort modelled after the South African anti-apartheid struggle and anti-colonial and anti-racist boycotts from India to the US civil rights movement, are as baseless as his claims of electoral fraud in the US.
In contrast to the lies of the US administration, we uphold basic truths: Masks prevent the spread of coronavirus and the defense of Palestinian rights through non-violent BDS campaigns is a moral duty of all anti-racist, anti-colonial and human rights respecting people.
Together with our brothers and sisters of colour, the indigenous people, the women and LGBTQI community, the migrants and many more in the US, as well as other peoples from Cuba to Afghanistan, we all will have to brace and stand firm to ensure these last weeks of the Trump administration will pass without major delusional damage.
More than ever, we need to join hands to ensure the new US administration does turn the page more radically than it would like to and effectively develops policies that defend the rights of all people within the US and stops supporting human rights violations and apartheid outside its borders.
Together we can achieve Freedom, Justice and Equality for all.
