Campaign Activities: Activists Meeting

Meeting of European activists for Palestine in The Hague
Exchanging views on future strategies and co-ordination
Sunday 22 February

On the 23rd of February the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague will open the hearings on the Wall that Israel is constructing on Occupied Palestinian Territory. In this connection many European organisations, active for Palestine, are coming to The Hague to take part in a number of activities. Activities will include a symposium on Saturday 21 February 2004 and a demonstration on Monday 23.

The Netherlands Stop the Wall Coalition* and PENGON/Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign have taken the initiative to use the occasion for a meeting of activist organisations on Sunday 22 February 2004. The meeting will provide opportunity to exchange views and experiences, discuss strategies for grassroots mobilization in Europe and discuss future activities.

Coordinators and activists of the Palestinian Anti-Apartheid Wall campaign will participate to provide background information and to outline priorities.

For this meeting two main themes have been chosen:

  • international law as a tool for advocacy and mobilization. (How the ICJ decision may be a beginning for a new advocacy strategy.)
  • lobbying European governments and the EU. (How European governments can take a clear and effective position and international policy mechanisms to provide real change.)

Besides there will be more general discussions on best ways to co-operate.

The meeting will take place at:
Vrije Academie, Paviljoensgracht 20-24, The Hague
The time frame is: Sunday 22 February 2004, 14-16 hours.

Organisations planning to participate are requested to register beforehand at: jelshout@wxs.nl

Jan Elshout will be also available for more information on the meeting.

Looking forward to see you in The Hague on the 22nd!
