November 9

November 9

Each year on November 9, we mark the Global Day of InterAction for a World without Walls. On this date people, movements and organizations across the continents unite in action and interaction to denounce the walls they are facing, to learn about the struggle against walls that others lead and to build and promote campaigns.

This day is an opportunity to:

– Raise awareness about the devastating effect of the increasing dominance of walls in our world and our lives

– Create solidarity and links among the people affected by the walls and movements fighting the walls

– Demand an immediate end to the walls that expel, exclude, oppress, discriminate and exploit

– Resist and defund those that profit from the walls

Since the first Global Day of InterAction in 2017, racialized capitalism and ongoing colonial policies are producing ever more walls of death, expulsion, exclusion, oppression, discrimination and exploitation. Black, brown, indigenous, poor or otherwise marginalised communities bear the brunt of the worsening economic, ecologic and moral crises of our times.

Yet, as Friends of the Earth Brazil remind us

“The bigger the walls, the more cracks. If the walls surround us, we should hold on to the certitude of hope that one by one they will be taken down. While we the people continue standing, they will fall!”
