Stop EU research funding for Elbit, IAI and other Israeli companies!

Stop the Wall has submitted a contribution to the EU consultation on its research policy in which it has denounced the funding of Israeli companies – and in particular Israeli companies involved in the construction of the Apartheid Wall – through European Union research programs.

The EU is running currently its Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), which bundles all research-related EU initiatives together under a common roof. Over 220 billion euros have been allocated for the program since 2005. As a result of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, Israel is one of the view non-EU countries allowed to see its companies and institutions applying for FP7 funding.

At present, Israeli organizations complicit with violations of international law, including arms companies such as Elbit and Israeli Air-crafts Industries, that supplied the drones used in Operation Cast Lead and that are building the Wall, receive EU security research funding. As the European Commission has observed, the EU is now second only to the Israel Science Foundation in Jerusalem as a source of research funding for Israeli academics, corporations and state enterprises. This campaign against EU funding for Israeli companies is part of a wider effort to suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement. It aims to end this blatant financial support for Israeli institutions and corporations complicit with or directly responsible for Israeli war crimes and underlines that the EU has to immediately cancel its Association Agreement with Israel if it wants to avoid itself to be complicit with Israeli violations of international law.
