Apartheid Wall Demonstration Disrupts Daily Life in Berlin to Highlight Plight of Palestinians

Today at noon in Berlin, Friedrichshain, the daily routine in the marketplace was suddenly disrupted with the crashing noise of Caterpilar bulldozers and construction equiptment, passing Apache helicopters and F-16 Fighter Jets, making people out to do their daily shopping look around in fear.

The reason for this disruption of daily life was a group of Berlin activists and peace groups that at the same time were building a 2.5m high Wall blocking one of the access streets to the market area.

Flyers and information available at the site of the action made it clear that this was not the same Wall that had divided the population of Berlin not so long ago, but rather this was only a small reproduction of the Israeli Apartheid Wall, currently being built throughout Palestine, dividing, ghettoising, expelling and dispossessing the residents there. The initial shock over what was happening in the market was soon transformed into concern and disbelief about the situation in Palestine, and how the Palestinian people are able to continually face, and resist the Israeli onslaught on their lives.
