The petition to oppose Sharon’s presence at the UN launched by al-Awda has been signed by almost 200 organizations and individuals from all over the world.

Argentina:
Activist in Argentina are collecting signatures from members of Parliament in protest of Ariel Sharon’s speech in front of the UN.

Brazil:
Brazilian parliamentarians have been addressed by the organizations and activists in Brazil protesting the presence of Apartheid Israel’s prime minister Ariel Sharon in front of the UN and to underline that Gaza is still under Israeli Occupation.

Denmark:
On Thursday September 15, the Boycott Israel Campaign Denmark holds a demonstration in the center of Copenhagen. Under the motto “Never forget Sabra and Shatila – Boycott Israel”, the protest will cite Sharon as a war criminal and take up the calls from the grassroots in Palestine rejecting his presence at the UN.

Speeches will be held by the Danish “For the right of return” group and the Boycott Israel Campaign. A Danish film on the massacres in Sabra and Shatila will be screened and a candle light vigil with cultural performances by a Palestinian singer will close the events.

France:
The Association France Palestine Solidarité has written an open letter to the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan denouncing and opposing Israel’s presence since the 13th of June as one of the vice-presidents of the UN General Assembly. Furthermore, they call on the UN not to allow an outlaw state to take over any responsibility at such an international level.

The French NGO Platform Palestine has scheduled a meeting with the French Ministry of Foreign affairs to protest the moves of the UN.

India:
A series of statements have been voiced by Indian left wing parties and organizations slamming the recent policies of Apartheid Israel and identifying the real meaning behind the disengagement.

Jordan:
A Sit-In held outside the UN office in Shmisany will take place on Wednesday 14th and a letter of protest will be handed over to the UN officials.

Netherlands:
The Netherland Palestine Committee has issued a press statement and is collecting signatures of support from a range of personalities throughout the country.

UK:
The PSC UK has initiated an open letter to the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan protesting Sharon’s presence at the UN to be endorsed by various UK personalities. On Friday morning, the signatures will be handed in to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
