This week, Occupation Forces have confiscated 53 dunums of land from the villages of Yatta, Dhahriya and Sammu to continue the isolation of these villages in the southern Hebron district.
The aim of the Occupation in this area is to fortify the Jewish-only settlement road #60 with a wall on either side. This wall will begin in Suseya settlement, southeast of Yatta, and stretch to the settler road crossing at the Karmel settlement, 8 km to the northeast.
The Jewish-only settlement road has already stolen parts of the villagesâ lands and has obstructed connections between the villages isolated south of it and the rest of the Hebron districts.
This wall now lays complete siege to the people in south Hebron district. It further highlights the futility of any kind of âchanges in the Wall`s pathâ which the Occupation has publicized to ensure international complicity in their plans – both sides completely ignoring that Palestinians demand the Wall to fall and not to be âmodifiedâ.
The first plans for the Wall isolated the villages in the southern part of the district through the Apartheid Wall. after modifications the Wall is now supposed to run just south of them. As a result the area is completely imprisoned, with the Jewish-only road fortified by walls running to the north of the villages, and the Apartheid Wall to the south. Hundreds of people will be forced to leave their villages and homes. Around 25,000 dunums of their land, planted with olive trees, wheat and vegetables, is also set to be annexed for the settlements in the area.
