Brukin: Olive trees and historical sites levelled for illegal industrial zones

***image2***Yesterday Occupation bulldozers continued tearing up the lands of the village of Brukin in the north of the West Bank. The bulldozers have now been at work for two days, clearing the way for the expansion of the industrial zones (For more information on the industrial zone) of the nearby Israeli settlement of Brukhin.

The head of the village council reports that the confiscation is not a new issue: Occupation forces have long prevented the villagers from accessing their land. Now however the Occupation is embarking on a program of wholesale destruction.

On the eastern side of the village, more land is being uprooted and levelled to make way for the expansion of the Rohin settlement industrial zone. The area, which is called Moghor Al-Shams wa Al-Qamar (Cave of the Sun and Moon), is rich with archaeological remains which will be completely destroyed by the Occupation’s assault.

While the settlements expand, the Palestinian villagers of Brukin are denied building permits and threatened with home demolition. Eight houses in the village are slated to be buldozed, as the Occupation claims that they were built without permission.

The head of the village council is calling on national and international institutions to campaign against the assault on the village.
