Académicos irlandeses han condenado a instituciones de investigación que financian investigaciones israelÃes y han llamado al cese de la colaboración con las universidades israelÃes.
El grupo Académicos por la Justicia presentó esta petición en una carta enviada al periódico Irish Times el dÃa 16 de septiembre, aniversario del comienzo de la matanza de Sabra y Shatila, DÃa Irlandés de Boicot a Israel.
Muchas instituciones culturales y de investigación, tanto nacionales como europeas, tratan a Israel como un estado europeo para conceder becas, subvenciones y contratos.
Firmada por cerca de sesenta académicos, esta carta condena la ocupación israelà y los abusos a los derechos humanos, y exige al profesorado llevar a cabo un boicot como “acción práctica” para presionar a Israel a cumplir con el derecho internacional y las normas básicas de derechos humanos.
El dÃa 5 de agosto el Comité de Relaciones Exteriores irlandés unánimemente aprobó una moción que condena los crÃmenes de guerra de la Ocupación y hace un llamado al gobierno a exigir sanciones contra el apartheid israelà en el marco de los Acuerdos de Comercio Euromed.

Señora, -Existe una amplia condena internacional a la polÃtica de violenta represión por parte de Israel contra el pueblo palestino en los Territorios Ocupados, además de las agresiones contra el pueblo libanés. El gobierno israelà permanece insensible frente a las exigencias morales de los lÃderes del mundo y a las numerosas resoluciones de Naciones Unidas.
Nosotros sentimos que es tiempo de escuchar el llamado palestino a tomar acciones prácticas que permitan presionar a Israel en el cumplimiento del derecho internacional y las normas básicas de derechos humanos.
Muchas instituciones culturales y de investigación, tanto nacionales como europeas, tratan a Israel como un estado europeo para conceder becas, subvenciones y contratos.
Llamamos al cese de cualquier clase de apoyo a las instituciones académicas israelÃes, tanto a nivel nacional como europeo. Pedimos a nuestros colegas académicos que apoyen esta moción a través de la abstención, donde sea posible, de cualquier futura colaboración con instituciones académicas israelÃes.
Esta suspensión de colaboración debe mantenerse hasta que Israel cumpla con las resoluciones de la ONU y ponga fin a la ocupación de los Territorios Palestinos- Atentamente, etc.
