Weekly Stop the Wall Repression Update

Scope: Repressive measures against Palestinian human rights defenders active against the Wall and the settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Period: Monday, June 28th to Monday, July 5th, 2010

Summary:

1) Arrests of HRDs:  

A number of arrests have been recorded this week. Israeli Occupation Forces arrested four HRDs in the village of Beit Ummar (Hebron District), 15 international activists in the village of Wadi Rahal (Bethlehem District), and one HRD in the village of Nabi Saleh (Ramallah District).

2) Violence against HRDs

Not many injuries have been recorded this week. One individual sustained an injury from a tear gas canister in Beit Jala (Bethlehem District). 

3) Collective punishment

Two night raids have been recorded this week. Some agricultural land was destroyed in the village of Bi’lin as a result of the IOF’s firing of tear gas.

Date: July 1st, 2010

Names:

1.   Thaer Ahmad Abu hashem (22 years-old).

2.   Issam Jamal Abumaria (21 years-old).

3.   Khalid Sami Sabarneh (16 years-old).

4.   Tamer Ismail Awad (23 years-old).

Circumstances: These HRDs were arrested after Israeli Occupation Forces raided their homes and destroyed their furniture and personal belongings.

 

Place: Wadi Rahal (Bethlehem District)

Date: July 2nd, 2010

Names: 15 unidentified HRDs

Circumstances: Israeli Occupation Forces arrested these HRDs during the village’s weekly protest against the Wall.

 

Place: Nabi Saleh (Ramallah District)

Date: July 4th, 2010

Name: Eyas Tamimi

Circumstances: Israeli Occupation Forces arrested this young HRD activist when they raided the village disguised in civilian vehicles.

Circumstances: Sustained injuries when Israeli Occupation forces fired a tear gas canister directly at his head during the weekly protest against the Wall.

Circumstances: Village land was destroyed when the IOF drowned the area in tear gas to suppress the weekly demonstration, igniting portions of agricultural land on fire.
