Summary: The start of the olive season has witnessed an increase in attacks on human rights defenders as they try to harvest their crops

Five people were arrested, three whilst harvesting their olive crops.

Four Palestinians – a journalist, an activist and two children – suffered serious injuries from the Occcupying Forces and settlers.

Place: Salah al-Khawaja, Ni’lin

Date of arrests: Monday 4 October

Names: Saeed Mohammad Khawaja, a 21 year old student from Birzeit University, Tariq Tawfiq a 19 years old activist, and Mohammed Younis Amira, 18 years

Circumstances: Occupation Forces stormed the village and fired tear gas and sound bombs before entering the Bagthamam house and making the arrests

 

Place: Beit Ula, near Hebron

Date of arrests: Friday 8 October

Names: Jihad Jamal and Iyad Jamil

Circumstances: The arrests took  place as the two human rights defenders attempted to harvest the crops at the start of the olive harvest season. Their father was also severely beaten

Name: Harun Amayreh, 25 years old, journalist from Palestine TV and Abbas Moumani, human rights defender, 36 years old who was injured by a rubber bullet to his back

Circumstances: Harun Amayreh suffered tear gas asphyxiation and Abbas Moumani was injured by a rubber bullet to the back at the Bil’in weekly protest against the Wall  

Name: Imran Mansour, 11 and Iyad Gaith, 10

Place : Silwan, Jerusalem

Date of Injury: Friday 8 October

Circumstances: A group were throwing stones when the head of Elad Settlement Association drove straight into the two victims. Imran suffered a head injury and a broken shoulder bone, whilst Eyad broke his leg and hand. Both are being treated at the Al Maqased Hospital.

Circumstances: A grassroots committee representative reported that the Israeli occupation forces stormed the village from several directions, and clashed with locals residents, firing tear gas and sound bombs before entering the Bagthamam house and arresting Saeed Mohammad Khawaja, a 21 year old student from Birzeit University, Tariq Tawfiq a 19 years old activist, and Mohammed Younis Amira, 18 years, who is the brother of the martyr Youssef Amira, and of Amira Rezk and Osman
